BEHIND THE BRAND

Meet the Owner

Kate Hunt

Hey y'all! I'm Kate, the one woman show behind The Duck Huntress. I say that, but this brand wouldn’t be where it is today without the support of all the inspiring female hunters who have embraced it since it launched in 2019.

As many of you know, Waterfowl has blessed me with a Passion, a Purpose, & a Community that I will forever be grateful for. It sets my soul on fire, and I love sharing its warmth with others. I hope this brand inspires other women to follow their dreams, no matter how unconventional. We are the authors of our own story, and it’s never too late to write a new chapter.

In addition to being an avid hunter & guide, I am an Auntie, artist, photographer, Army Veteran & prior Law Enforcement. In the summer of 2022, after a successful 9-year career as a Deputy Sheriff & Narcotics Investigator in South Carolina, I decided it was time for a new chapter in my life. I packed up my bags and moved to Texas, where I now pursue the DH brand full-time.

I live by the belief that the good you put out into the world will be returned to you tenfold, so I love creating more opportunities for female waterfowlers and providing them a space to shine.

behind the

Vision

Back in 2018, I went online to find apparel for female waterfowlers, with the desire to own a shirt displaying a silhouette of a female duck hunter. Surely that had to already exist... After extensive searching, I was shocked to find that there was absolutely nothing geared towards female waterfowlers besides a pink shirt with a duck on it labeled "women's duck hunting apparel."

It was this realization that captivated my artist soul and after almost two years of designs, samples & saving, the first female waterfowl brand was born.

I am proud to provide women & young girls with hunting apparel that is not only high quality & comfortable, but available in a variety of real hunting colors for all shapes and sizes.

THE DH

Movement

When the DH story began, I not only wanted to create apparel, but to build a supportive, welcoming space for all women in waterfowl whether she was a seasoned duck hunter, or she was soaking it all in for the first time. I make it a point to showcase real female hunters, because we are truly everywhere. The DH brand is now represented by women & girls in every U.S. state, Canada, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, England, France, Spain, New Zealand, and Australia. I am so proud of the women who have transformed DH from a brand into such an inspiring community. This journey has been a true example of, “if you build it, they will come.”

The meaning behind the

Name

Why choose the word Huntress, you may ask? At the time, the word “Huntress” had gained a negative connotation on social media, kindly put as, "a female who didn’t take hunting seriously". Needless to say, I wanted the challenge of recrowning the word with a positive light. There are enough people against the hunting community without us turning on our own.

After all, the definition of a Huntress is simply, “a woman who hunts and has been referenced since Greek & Roman Mythology.

I want the next generation of young girls to associate it only with empowering women, and I dare say I’ve helped accomplish that over the last 5 years.

THANKFUL

In 2023 The Duck Huntress brand made it's first show appearance at NWTF in Nashville, followed by the Delta Waterfowl Expo in Little Rock. I absolutely loved being able to meet everyone who stopped by our booths & all the support that was shown. I am also so grateful for my tribe of ladies who helped make these events possible! I hope to see y'all at more in 2024 and if you have any suggestions for shows in your state, please feel free to contact me.
